Common questions
How much does moving my care cost?
Free for a non-controlled prescription written in Canada. A paid review applies if it is controlled, or if it was written outside Canada. A controlled prescription written outside Canada needs an assessment instead.
Can I transfer a controlled prescription?
A pharmacist can review a transfer between pharmacies within two years of the date it was received. A clinician must review your care by video before considering a new prescription.
Do I have to be assessed again?
No. A transfer does not repeat the assessment. Your clinician reviews your current treatment with you.
Do I have to leave my current prescriber?
Keep your prescriber if you only change pharmacies.
What if my prescriber is outside Canada?
An Ontario pharmacy cannot act on it. An Avora clinician reviews it instead. For controlled medication, start with an assessment.
What if your clinician disagrees with my dose?
They will explain any concerns and discuss changes with you first.
What if I don't have a prescription yet?
Start by exploring our care options. An assessment, or questions about another concern, connects you with a clinician.
How does delivery work?
Pick up at the partner pharmacy, or have a courier bring it. A courier needs someone 18 or older to sign at the door. There is no advance waiver.
Who delivers?
Where the pharmacy has its own driver, it delivers in that area. Canada Post is not used for controlled medications.
Can I pick the day?
You choose the delivery day. We remind you the evening before.
How fast do you reply?
Within the window shown on your request: up to 2 business days for a clinical review, 1 business day for a question, 3 business days for delivery or funding. Not around the clock.
Is it covered by OHIP?
Avora fees are paid privately, not covered by OHIP. Your workplace or private plan may reimburse part of it.
